PURPOSE – The Backstory

In case it isn’t glaringly obvious from the website promo 🙂 I’m writing my first book. I say ‘first,’ because ever since I picked up a pen and let my soul pour on to the page in June 2016 in the last week of my father’s life, I have been on a liberating, enlightening and often uncomfortable ride. I had forgotten I was a writer at heart, and sharing my journey – the behind the scenes learnings and challenges which have brought me to today has been the most precious, meaningful project I have ever undertaken.

I hope it moves and inspires you to step into the magnitude of the possibilities for your life. I pray you find something in it which speaks to your own heart and perhaps awakens some forgotten piece of you that might have been left behind. I hope that you enjoy it.

It’s been quite a journey, here’s a little taster;

‘Stepping up and out requires gumption. I was 19 when I walked into the Bond Street offices of the man who at that time, was Britain’s most powerful publicist and I was going to make my mark. The exercise of sitting cross legged on the living room floor, highlighter in hand, crossing the names of Public Relations agencies listed in the Yellow Pages had proved successful. A call and an interview later, and I’d landed a two week work experience placement at what was then London’s most powerful PR agency. Failure wasn’t an option as it was just months since my reality had been benefits and hopelessness. I was still living on the 15th floor of a council tower block amongst many other teen mums and suddenly I was in a lift with Simon Cowell. I’d passed fifteen paparazzi outside the front entrance all waiting to see Rebecca Loos (of David Beckham ‘fame’) walk in to meet with my then boss and share details of what went on to become the country’s highest paid kiss and tell story ever. I was millions of miles from the shore of my comfort zone in the glossy, glamorous Bond Street office amongst privately educated girls with whom I felt I shared little in common, and while my stomach was a knot of nerves, I was exhilarated. I was here about to take the first step in building a life for myself and my two year old daughter, and for the first time in many months I felt alive.’

I love The Royal Lancaster hotel overlooking Hyde park. I often stay here when I come to London. It overlooks the streets I walked down as a child on route to primary school. I can see the park I'd cycle around, lost in dissociative fantasies of fairytale characters I...
